8 Books to Read Before You Visit Morocco

I first visited Morocco in my mind, transported by the words from the pages of a book and the scenes in a movie. I return to these pages and scenes when I'm far from my second home to make me smile and remember my visits.

I want you to experience Morocco in your mind, so below is a compilation of books about Morocco that will transport you to this enchanted land. You'll get a look into the chaotic souks, the stillness of the Sahara, and the bustling big cities. These books will invoke the sights and smells of this faraway place from the pages of a well-crafted novel.

Whether preparing for or considering a trip to Morocco, these books will help you gain a better understanding of Morocco’s rich history, unique culture, foreign customs, and varied geography. These books are a beautiful way to visit before you visit and unlock the excitement that comes before visiting a foreign land.

Magic of Morocco

I’ve had a strange love affair with Morocco since my early 20s… drawn to the colors, architecture, and tradition that made the country so exotic. During my RTW trip in 2015, I was finally able to spend time in Morocco and it was equally magical and maddening. It was the first country on my travels where I rented an apartment, found a routine, and didn’t fill my calendar with tourist must dos. In the 45 days I first spent in that country, my feelings for it swung between fear, frustration, infatuation, and awe. After 45 days, I was ready to leave but just as ready to go back. In starting Mumtaz Maroc, I want to take away the fear and frustration for travelers and just fill them with a sense of wonder and awe leaving them infatuated with the magic of Morocco.
