The Surf, Sand, & Souk tour will push you past your everyday routine! Ride the waves to enjoy the beaches of Essaouira. Find peace in the stillness of the Sahara desert by spending a night under the stars. Test your barter and navigation skills as you experience the maddening medina of Marrakech! We’ve carefully curated a unique experience that will be filled with exciting adventures, rich cultural connections, a close look at its storied history, daily delicious cuisine, and deep self-exploration.

This small group women’s only tour is for culturally curious women from all backgrounds with a desire to connect deeply to themselves and their destination. The Surf, Sand & Souk tour offers our women travelers an unforgettable travel experience that integrates expansive adventures, mindful cultural explorations, and a deep connection to a like-minded community of travelers.

The tour is partially hosted and includes all accommodation, breakfast and dinner/lunch (where notes), transportation, guides, and activities, so all you need to do is enjoy the experience! This tour will be led by your host Malain McCormick in conjunction with a licensed Morocco-based tour operator.


Full Itinerary

Day 1: Essaouira

Meet your driver at the Marrakech airport for a transfer to the Atlantic coast city of Essaouira. We will stop on the way for photo ops and to enjoy the changing scenery. Enjoy some downtime before joining the group for a Welcome Dinner. Overnight in Essaouira.

Day 2: Essaouira

After breakfast at the hotel, we will enjoy a morning surf session in the Pacific waves. After a group lunch, spend the afternoon enjoying a “nous nous” at a local cafe or shopping in the souks. That evening we will sample the fresh seafood by visiting a delicious no frills seafood shack. Overnight in Essaouira.

Day 3: Essaouira – Taroudant

After breakfast at the hotel, our driver will meet us to begin our journey to the Sahara desert. We will stop at the “Grandmother of Morocco”, Taroudant, which is situated in the fertile Souss Valley and the foothills of the Atlas mountains. We will enjoy a beautiful hike among the lush scenery with a look into the traditional Berber life.

Day 4: Taroudant – Tamnalgoult

After breakfast, we will continue our journey to the Sahara Desert via Tamnalgoult. We will stop in Taliouine for lunch and to visit the Saffron fields. An evening of traditional music and art will conclude the day.

Day 5: Tamnalgoult – Merzouga – Sahara Desert

After breakfast at your hotel, your guide will meet you and continue on to the Sahara through Merzouga, enjoying beautiful gorges and Berber villages along the way. After arrival at the hotel in Merzouga, we will transfer to camel for our 1 ½ hour trek into the desert on camelback.

Day 6: Sahara Desert – Dades Valley

Wake to enjoy sunrise over the Sahara dunes followed by a breakfast at the camp. After breakfast, we will board our camels for our trek out of the desert to meet our host and 4x4 for the journey to Dades Valley. We will pass through Arfoud, Tinjad, Todgha Gorges, and Tinghir enjoying the vast scenery and look at village life in the countryside. Overnight in Dades Valley

Day 7: Dades Valley – Ait Benhaddou – Marrakech

After breakfast in the riad, we will begin the journey to Marrakech, stopping at Ait Benhaddou in Ouarzazate and crossing the Atlas Mountains once more via Tichka Pass. Arrive in Marrakech in the evening in time for a walking food tour. Overnight in Marrakech.

Day 8: Marrakech

After a few days on the road, enjoy a morning with a visit to a traditional hamman followed by free time in the medina and an opportunity to see historic sites, shop in the souk or people watch. Enjoy a “crafternoon” with henna artists, and a chance to make your own Moroccan souvenir. A farewell dinner will cap the evening! Overnight in Marrakech.

Day 9: Departure Day

Breakfast provided at the riad followed by airport transfers for departures.

Day 10 - 13: Optional Add On

Travelers have the option to add on trips to Casablanca, Rabat, Fes, or other parts of the Kingdom based on their preference.

We will be staying in varied types of lodging that include traditional homes (Riads), a luxury Sahara Desert camp experience, and a gorgeous property near the ocean.
